Scholarships

The Department of Geography and Planning offers a number of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in the department. Each of these scholarships were created to honor the contributions of former faculty members and alumni by providing support for the academic efforts of geography and planning students at Appalachian State University.
The requirements for the scholarships vary, but typically include:
- full-time enrollment in a geography or planning degree program
- junior or senior status
- a 2.5 GPA
Many of the scholarships also consider financial need of the student.

- Stephen Vacendak Graduate Fellowship in Geography
The amounts of the scholarships vary from year to year, but typically range between $300 and $500. Students are invited to apply for the scholarships in January or February, with scholarships awarded for the following academic year. Deadline for the 2009-2010 year are due by 12:00 noon on Friday, February 27, 2009.
