Research and Interests:
My primary research explores the intersection between land use and transportation policies, focusing primarily on the evaluation of travel behavior and the use of GIS to quantify patterns of land use. I also have an interest in property and regulation, and am currently investigating state statutes and local ordinances from North Carolina's early statehood period (1776-1789).
Along with Todd Cherry and John Dawson of the Department of Economics, I work on the Western North Carolina Economic Index , a monthly report on economic activity in the 25 counties and two metropolitan areas of our region.
I serve on the Town of Boone Board of Adjustment, an appointed, volunteer citizen body responsible for decisions on variances, administrative appeals and special use permits.
I am currently the Newsletter Editor of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association.
I make music with The Worthless Son-in-Laws.

Introduction to Planning (PLN 2410), Freshman Honors Introduction to Planning (PLN 2510), Planning Techniques (PLN 3431), Transportation Geography and Planning (PLN 3530), Land Use Regulations (PLN 3730), Quantitative Methods for Geography and Planning (PLN 4800), Environmental Policy and Planning (PLN 3530).
I currently serve as the Director of the Departmental Honors Program.
