The major objectives of the Department of Geography and Planning are to:
1. Promote the understanding of the spatial dimensions of human behavior within the physical and cultural systems of the earth
and the role of planning in achieving improvement in those systems
2. Offer a well-balanced curriculum which will aid students in finding productive places in society
3. Maintain a faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, scientific research, and community and regional service
All majors in the Department of Geography and Planning require a minimum of 122 semester hours for the degree. Social Science
teaching licensure with a geography concentration requires 123 semester hours. A minor is required for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
In addition to the core curriculum, major and minor requirements, electives must be taken to meet the total required minimum
hours. Two semester hours of free electives OUTSIDE the major discipline are required.
