Review: North Carolina: People and Environments, 2nd Edition
Jack Betts,
Charlotte Observer, December 2004
'This is the second edition of " North Carolina : People and Environments," by three geographers at Appalachian State University in Boone. It's a hefty volume with a wealth of text, tables and photographs from across North Carolina . You'll find harbor scenes from Ocracoke in the east and Lake Lure in the west on the same page as thought-provoking photos of inappropriate mountain development juxtaposed with examples a page later of admirable historical preservation.
It's history, geography, sociology, business, agriculture and an environmental reader all rolled up into one. Some pages are mild-gray for all the text, but there's a world of information for the dedicated reader.'
