GIS LAB
The GIS Lab is located in the Geography and Planning Department on the third floor of Rankin West. The lab is managed by a full-time lab supervisor. The lab consists of two classrooms. One room for regular student use and a second room for teaching. The labs contain a variety of Dell computers running Windows XP in a network enviroment, two large format digitizers, one color and one black and white laser printer, a scanner, and a large format plotter. The main software packages for geographic analysis and map production include ArcGIS 9.x., Erdas Imagine 9.1, and CorelDraw. The ESRI site license agreement provides unlimited use of ArcGIS 9.x., which is available for students to install on personal computers. You can also access the ArcGIS 9.x. from the Belk Library.
Two research labs are also located in the Department and provide undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to work with faculty on research projects. The labs contain several high end workstations for data processing. A large format plotter is also available for printing maps and posters.
